Target Groups:

3. Mental Health Related Seminars

UNIT STANDARD ID 117502:
As we are very flexible and have a large resource base, the topics for seminars can be suggested by the group and we will try to respond accordingly. We have worked extensively on:

Snoozling
Snoozling is a multi-sensory activity originally designed for use in the treatment of people with intellectual disabilities (mental handicap). In Europe it is widely used in education and care settings and has shown great benefits for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, dementia, mental illness, chronic pain, acquired head injury and other conditions. However, until now, multi-sensory environments have not been very well known in South Africa. Cape Mental Health Society plans to change that with our ‘The Snoozle Programme’, guide, which is available as a workshop and a handbook at R40 per copy.

5. Training Materials for People working with Adults with Intellectual Disability

Training Workshops Unlimited offers:

Basic Lifeskills Programme Part 1 and 2
Includes: Comprehensive Programme Kit, Training for one staff member on programme application; Certification of successful trainees and free telephonic advice.

Work Skills Educational Programme
Structured programme for medium and high functioning adults focussing on health and safety, Sexuality/HIV/AIDS Education, general lifeskills and communication. Includes: Instruction Manual, Worksheets master, information on managing difficult behaviour. Two days training for one staff member on assessment application included, additional charges for more staff members. Free telephonic advice to support trained staff members.

Sexuality Education Programme
Includes: Comprehensive Programme Kit (including full colour posters, educational game, dolls, colouring book, etc). Two days training for one staff member on assessment application included, additional charges for more staff members. Free telephonic advice to support trained staff members. (Also offered in 3 parts for children from different age groups.)

6. Assessment Kits for Adults with Intellectual Disability

Training Workshops Unlimited Basic Skills Assessment (WUBSA)
This includes a comprehensive kit covering both the screening and full assessment (including equipment, instructions, record sheets and interpretation guide). Assesses basic work skills and level of supervision required within a protective employment and training environment. Two days training for one staff member on assessment application included, additional charges for more staff members. Free telephonic advice to support trained staff members.
