Often mothers of severely disabled children are unable to seek employment as they have to take care of their disabled children. This project provides the opportunity for them to generate an income from home. In addition, a number of people with psychiatric disabilities, e.g. schizophrenia, are unable to secure employment in the open labour market. This project provides them with an opportunity to work at their own pace and to generate additional income.
CMHS embarked on the Beadability project in August 2003 and an impressive number of items, including bookmarks, badges, key rings and Christmas decorations have been produced.
ALL PRODUCT ARE INDIVIDUALLY HANDMADE, AND ARE ATTRACTIVELY AND INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED

3. Handmade Paper products from Fountain House
100% Recycled Paper
At Fountain House we make our paper exclusively from waste office paper collected from a variety of businesses in Cape Town. The differences in texture and colour that may arise due to the individual properties of the 100%natural products we use, coupled with the fact that we make each sheet by hand, adds to the uniqueness of each product. Great care is taken to ensure that these differences are kept to a minimum, but cannot be controlled completely.
Decoration of the Paper Products
We encourage our members to be as creative as possible, so that each product becomes an artwork in itself. However, we provide strict specifications on the types and quality of the material and the craftsmanship required for the different ranges, thus ensuring stylistic harmony and end products that are of high quality. Customers are welcome to discuss individual preferences with us, or make a selection from the examples contained herein.
